Rovi acquires DigiForge, reportedly to improve cable visibility
Rovi is reportedly doing what it needs to do to make its way into the cable business--including acquiring DigiForge, a digital applications engineering company.
Sources told Multichannel News that the acquisition "was completed in the last few weeks." Neither a Rovi spokeswoman nor DigiForge President Ed Knudson offered comment on the report.
The deal, if it happened, would make sense. Rovi is trying to crack the cable interactive program guide (IPG) space and DigiForge has built relationships with MSOs Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) as well as working with CableLabs and TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO). Additionally, Knudson's name is familiar to cable operators from his past history as vice president and general manager of TV Guide International and OpenTV.
