Sports news: Carrier pigeon beats broadband

It turns out souped up carrier pigeons are still better message bearers than broadband service in parts of the United Kingdom. The pigeons were released from a Yorkshire farm as part of a publicity stunt to prove that broadband is still lacking in the U.K. As the birds took off on a 70-mile trip, a 300 meg file started to download at the farm.

The pigeons reached their mark in an hour and 15 minutes. The file was only 24 percent downloaded at that point, causing the stunt's organizer to opine: "This is the U.K. It should be well-connected but around a third of homes can't get broadband."

On the plus side, they can still get carrier pigeons, and that's not always the easiest thing.
