Verizon adds 182,000 FiOS TV customers in fourth quarter
Verizon (NYSE: VZ) may not be rolling out FiOS TV in any new territories, but it's still rolling up customers in those territories where it's launched in competition with incumbent cable providers. The telco, in fourth quarter earnings announced today, said it added 182,000 FiOS TV customers a part of a net total of 197,000 FiOS Internet customers in the quarter, bringing total FiOS TV subscriber numbers of 3.5 million.
The company has said it would concentrate on improving FiOS TV penetration and, according to the fourth quarter figures, it's been doing just that. FiOS TV penetration reached 28 percent by the end of the quarter compared to 24.7 million at year-end 2009. FiOS also continued to pay off with FiOS revenues comprising about 53 percent of consumer wireline revenues in the quarter compared to about 50 percent in the third quarter.
The broadband and TV business was good, the telco concluded, with revenue up 18.4 percent from the fourth quarter of 2009 at $1.8 billion and consumer ARPU at $88.85. FiOS ARPU, Verizon added, is "more than $146."
